Best Vegan Protein Powders

…That DON’T Taste Like Sh*t

Guys, if there’s anything I can safely say I’ve done since being vegan – it’s trying LITERALLY every single vegan protein powder on the shelves. I have a smoothie addiction. I love having a smoothie for lunch or breakfast during the week, it’s a great way to boost my daily greens intake and give myself heaps of antioxidants! But sometimes I find myself still hungry after my smoothies. Enter – vegan protein powders.

No, not all vegan protein powders are the same. No one wants a clumpy, gritty, weird af tasting smoothie. We’re here to break down which vegan protein powder is right for you! Maybe you’re a protein powder and almond milk kinda human? No added anything. Weird weird human you are. (Just kidding) Or maybe you’re like me and you enjoy your smoothie and just want something to blend right in, nothing that will alter the flavor or consistency too much but rather bulk it up in protein and healthy fiber to keep me full!

We want our protein powder to – taste fab, not be chalky or weird inconsistency, not be crazy artificial tasting! Can’t a girl dream?! These are the protein powders we’ve tried, loved, and repurchased time and time again!

Our Favorite Vegan Protein Powders

#1. Vega

This is a brand that’s been in the game a little while now. I actually prefer this one most of the time just out of sheer convenience as most grocers carry this brand! If I’m feeling particularly lazy one week I’ll buy the Vega Pre-made Shakes (guys taste JUST like chocolate milk) and enjoy them for breakfast on the go. I love the flavor of this brand whether you’re using the powder itself, or the pre-mixed convenient drinks – if it’s Vega, we’re in.

I’ve tried just about every type of protein drink vega offers and truly – it’s pretty solid. They do have many different options of protein powders and drinks. They have a sport line, a smoothie line, protein + greens, their Vega ONE line, and the pre-packaged drinks. All of them we’ve tried, and thoroughly enjoyed! The ONE item we weren’t blown away by from this company was their vegan yogurt. But thankfully this isn’t a vegan yogurt article. So just toss that fun fact on the back burner!

#2. Orgain Organic Protein

This protein powder boasts 21g of protein in each serving. Definitely serving the purpose of smoothing bulking! Orgain’s powder blended nicely in with our smoothies and we didn’t notice much texture change or taste change with the vanilla flavor, which is always nice! This brand also has pre-made vegan drinks with the powder, though we’ve never tried them – they’re definitely on our list! We’ve only gone through one package of Orgain and we used it both in smoothies and by itself. We preferred it in smoothies.

#3. KOS Organic Plant Protein

KOS is a FABULOUS protein powder. Taste-wise – this wins hands down. Definitely a pricier protein powder of this list but truly not by much. It only has 20g of protein which actually is on the lower end for this list. We used the vanilla one and honestly I was able to drink this shaken with just almond milk. I added ice to the blender and just used the powder and almond milk, and it was hands down the best tasting vegan protein powder I’ve ever had. I haven’t tried the chocolate one but that is absolutely something I would purchase in the future. We actually enjoyed baking protein cookies with this protein powder too. This is my new favorite and has replaced my Vega streak!!

#4. SB Organic Vegan Protein Powder

This was a really great tasting protein powder too! We’ve only used it a few different times but overall we’ve enjoyed this product! We have the vanilla flavor. I did like it more blended into smoothies, and I found myself satisfied after drinking one! I definitely wasn’t hungry! This supplies the consumer with 20g of plant-based protein per serving!

#5. Garden Of Life Raw Organic Protein Powder

So this one is a slight curve for us. We like many others, enjoyed the original Garden Of Life powder before the company was bought out by powerhouse company Nestle. Single the switch – the protein powder that had a huge cult following has had a massive shift in the following. We personally noticed a huge change in the texture and consistency of this product. Prior to the shift we were big fans of this stuff! Doing more research I realized they had increased sodium as a preservative in this product which leads to its newly unpleasant tastes and textures. So the curve is – if you’re lucky enough to have an older batch, you can reminisce with us. LOL. This company also makes different types of their protein powder – they have their original and they created a “fit” line as well!

#6 OWYN (Only What You Need) Dark Chocolate Plant-Based Protein Powder

This one is a new fav for us! I tend to grab vanilla protein powders because it’s rare that I drink them alone. I prefer to blend into smoothies. However, if I do drink alone I’ll almost always opt for a chocolate one because who isn’t obsessed with chocolate milk? This was a really pleasant tasting powder! Not gritty at all in texture. Rather smooth, sweet, but not artificially sweet. It was lovely! I did blend it into a banana almond milk situation once (told you I’m a smoothie fanatic) and it was really tasty!

#7. Plant Fusion Complete Plant-Based Pea Protein Powder

Pictured-Red Velvet Flavor

This one here by far has the most insane yummy flavors. They have every base covered and I wish I could sit here and tell you I’ve tried all of these fun flavors but sadly we’ve only tried vanilla and cookies and cream. They have chocolate, RED VELVET, and even a natural no flavor one with stevia! Cookies and cream was delicious and the vanilla one I had was actually a sample size from Whole Foods. I enjoyed them both!
