The FEMPIRE’S Ride Or Die Smoothie Recipe

Ah, this recipe. So there, of course, is a back story to this smoothie. I was in this adorable little vegan-friendly restaurant a couple of years ago, and I ordered a blueberry smoothie. Secret ingredient? Peanut butter. I’m not sure why this threw me off at first and truthfully I almost didn’t order this one because I thought blueberry and peanut butter? That’s odd to me. But thankfully, I stuck with it because its an incredible match made in heaven. And surprisingly more common than I thought. Anyone else into blueberry and peanut butter?

Now, they listed all of the ingredients- obviously they didn’t post a recipe up for guests to see but the ingredients were all there. You guys, it was seriously the BEST smoothie I had ever had.

I told myself if smoothies tasted THIS good there is zero reason why I shouldn’t be drinking one every day. Seriously, it was like a dessert. AND it kept me SO full! There was even less of a reason why I couldn’t make something like this at home. But HOW.

So I took a sneaky picture of the menu hanging on the wall and it took me probably a solid 10-20 tries before I nailed it. Well, my version of it anyway. But it was the yummiest journey until I nailed it, so no complaints here!

Do I Need A High Powered Blender?

Yes. Yes. And more yes. Trust me you’ll thank me AND you later. I held off for YEARS buying a Vitamix because the price tag was so incredibly daunting. But since owning one, I would never be without it. Ever. Like…if mine were to break or have something happen to it, I WOULD replace it literally immediately. It’s a NEED in my house. And honestly you guys, the price tag is WELL justified. I actually got ours as a refurbished one through the Vitamix website, and its been about 5 years and she’s still goin’ strong. Never had an issue. We’ve gone through quite a few interesting times together too that absolutely could have turned into an issue.

For example- Couldn’t find the plastic stir thing-y it came with (featured below) to stir harder things like banana nice cream…so I used a wooden spoon. Dont do that. Unless of course you enjoy eating wood shard flavored ice cream than by all means. LOL

This would be the stir thing-y I was referring to.

My family has a couple of cottages down the cape across the street from each other (it’s like our little family summer compound) and I’ll straight up BRING my Vitamix with me when I stay there. No, I’m not kidding. I could have been more insane and seat belted it in the back on the drive down. Held off on that.

It makes all the difference in the world when you have this guy as your blender. You can’t taste any grainy-ness in your smoothies, everything tastes CRAZY smooth. Even with the more hardcore greens like kale. I’ve always been a texture freak and I can’t STAND picking greens out of my teeth. So gross.

Is There Another Blender As Good As The Vitamix?

If you’re someone who has a decent blender, for example, the Ninja series. Its still a great blender. I had the Ninja for years before I invested in my Vitamix.

I would advise you to blend your greens and your liquid FIRST, on full blast for at least 1-2 minutes until its as smooth as possible. Then go in with your other ingredients. We did a post not too long ago on Our Must-Have Kitchen Appliances For A Vegan Kitchen that features our beloved Vitamix amongst other MUST haves! Be sure to take a peak to make sure all of your plant-based needs are being met with ease in the kitchen!

Lets get blending!

The Fempire’s Favorite Smoothie

What you’ll need:

  • Favorite Non-Dairy Milk – We use unsweetened vanilla almond milk about 1 Cup alter depending on how you like the consistency of your smoothie
  • 1 Cup Blueberries
  • 1 Banana
  • 1-1/2 Cup Greens – whatever you fancy, we like spinach and kale!
  • 1 big spoonful of peanut butter – or almond butter if you’re not a fan of PB!
  • 1/2 tsp organic vanilla extract (don’t skimp here guys, cheap vanilla is yucka) or
  • Drizzle of maple syrup (if you like a sweet smoothie. 😉 )

That’s the basic recipe guys! I’ve sauntered off this path SO many times and added all sorts of random ingredients in there, such as chia seeds, flax seed, dates, and açaí. Have FUN with this. Berries are one of the richest sources of antioxidants for our bodies. Feel free to switch them up too! If all you have is blackberries or raspberries- go for it! If I’m ever experiencing issues with my skin, I’ll immediately make a few of these during the week and like magic, it’ll clear right up.

My family has named this so many different names but there happens to be one that just stuck. Funny- my sisters girlfriend who has some GI issues was over our house and I happened to be making this smoothie in the kitchen. I had a bit of leftovers and offered them to her. A few days later she says to me “Lan (that’s my nickname), that poop juice you gave me the other day was amazing can I have some more?” HAHA So its taken on the name- Poop Juice. I figured that wouldn’t have been a solid title for the name of this post.

I hope you guys enjoy this as much as we do. Its become a cult favorite in our home. If you make it be sure to let us know how it comes out and tag us in all of your posts! We’d love to see!

Happy blending FEMPIRE!
