This is one of those blog posts that I knew I wanted to create the minute I launched this blog. We’re talkin’ hippie-boho-zen, whatever you wanna call it- HOME DECOR!!!
Our home is where the “FEMPIRE” name really came from. I would call our little house our “fempire” and it was just sort of our thing. Another name for “paradise” if you will. Then, when I was debating for 3 days over what to name this beautiful little baby blog, I looked at Lynn and said “holy sh*t…the FEMPIRE???” Huge smile across my girl’s face, and just like that, she was born.
Truth comes out.
When I first bought my house, Lynn still lived in NJ. I quickly learned how TERRIBLE I was at visualizing things. Wether it was furniture, paint colors, decor and accents, I couldn’t picture a damn thing.
We’d be in the furniture stores and I’d say, “oh I love that! But where would I ever put it?” Walls were just big, white, and empty and I couldn’t envision it really – any other way.
I knew what I liked, and what I wanted the vibe of the house to feel like. I’ve always been a spiritual zen little hippie feminist. Always. I love salt lamps, and tapestries, and not shaving for a week. Judge me, I don’t care.
I work full time in a hair salon. I’m sure every one of our readers has at one point in time been to a salon. Its LOUD, its CHAOTIC, its MAYHEM. ALL. DAY. LONG.
Zen Home Decor To The Rescue
I knew the number one thing I wanted this house to do for me was to relax me. I come home wound up like a top, as my dad would say. Therefore, I knew I needed at least 60 salt lamps. Just kidding. Just 5…and 3 salt nightlights. Not kidding.
We looked everywhere and found inspiration just like every other human on the internet in 2019, on Pinterest. Good GOD where would I be without that website. It was LOADED with inspiration and visuals!!! OH the visuals. It was perfect, exactly what I needed to begin my search for the pieces I wanted in my home.
This post will forever be updating and updating because who doesn’t just continuously buy home decor?! I know I’m not the only one! I’ve found SO many cute pieces online and I can’t wait to share some of them with you!
Grab A Snack & Lets Chat Hippie Home Decor
Grab a coffee, or a glass of wine, or beer, whatever you fancy and lets decorate your house! FEMPIRE style! Wine induced home purchases are never regretful. Promise. That will act as a disclaimer. Show your significant other. We gotchu.
My first and hugely obvious addiction you’ll find in our fempire is the 40 something houseplants. The house is literally alive and I couldn’t love it more. Plants are INCREDIBLE. They brought this house to life and by far are the main focal point of our home.
Here are a few of our babies:
I have a whole blog post dedicated to houseplants and their magic and will be launching that very soon! We’ll leave the link here when we do! And no, it doesn’t matter if your windows suck and don’t get enough light. You can still have many different houseplants. Check it out!
So what else?
Amazon is my favorite you guys. I seriously have an addiction. Half the time I’m not even sure whats in the boxes that are sitting on my front porch. But I’m SO glad they’re there! HAHA. They literally have EVERYTHING. And the shipping guarantee is just far too bomb. Thats half the reason this house was decorated primarily through amazon because I have zero patience to wait. Bring on the drones amazon. I’ll be sitting waiting 30 minutes after my order on my front steps.
I’m serious.
My 10 Favorite AMAZON Hippie Home Decor Ideas

Macrame Plant Hangings
Okay more plant sh*t, after this I’m done, I swear. These hanging macrame plant holders are in every room of my house. They’re STUNNING and they’re STRONG! They hold my big ol’ spider plant way up high in the corner. Tough job. They’re always a huge conversation starter in my home.
Candles!
Candles. I have true obsession with candles. Marshalls, Tj’s, and Home Goods are all FAB places to grab beautiful candles too! But Amazon is stepping up. I’m someone who needs candles lit constantly. Again, the relaxing zen thing. I have purchased this set of candles myself and have purchased it several times as gifts. They come in a beautiful little box as a set of 4, the candles themselves are small but they do burn impressively for quite some time, and they’re stupid cute. Check em out- HERE
Dream Catchers. This was a surprise for me. I’ve seen them and have always been drawn to them but never actually owned one. Lynn bought me my first one because she’s always really loved them. I’ve since gone back and purchased more just because I love how they look. You could put these guys anywhere, in any room even a nursery. Catch all those babies bad dreams! They’re beautiful and meaningful! They have a bunch of different kinds but I swooned over the moon and the stars personally. SO pretty hanging on the wall.
Macrame Wall Hangings
I LOVE macrame guys. Just if you haven’t noticed yet I figured I’d better state the obvious. Texture is so important with home decor, no matter what your sense of style is! These are beautiful, and they again, are a beautiful conversation starter in any room!
Tapestry Curtains
Yes, I said curtains not a whole tapestry. BUT they’re GORGEOUS. If you have a random window that needs some extra love, or a closet with one of those little bars with a curtain to act as a door, these would look amazing. We love ours! These come in a variety of colors and patterns to match your home zen style!
Half Way!!
Cute AF Coffee Table Book – The Bohemians Handbook
We love decorating with books. I have a display on my coffee table, and my plant table under the window. This book, is my favorite. Name? The New Bohemians Handbook. I mean come on, I actually owned this before I even bought my house. It’s found a perfect little home right on the coffee table, announcing to every soul who walks into our plant powered fempire that we ARE in fact bohemian lovers.
Phases of the Moon
I love the moon. Its always fascinated me the way our moods can change due to its positioning. If you have a bad day or strange things are happening and then someone says “well its a full moon!” That, oh weird, feeling is what I love. I love the connection. So naturally, when I saw that people actually make home decor of the moon phases, I needed it. We have this one, but there are options all over Amazon and other stores too for this! Some are photos, some are hangings both vertical and horizontal, and others are in a chain format like ours is. We have ours draped over one of our lesser used window curtains. Absolutely beautiful.
Healing Crystal Skull
If you know me and have visited my home you’ll find out rather quickly my skull obsession. I’ve always love skulls. I have a nice big gold guy sitting on my bookcase, I have an all glass candle tea light skull, and I have this beautiful little gem right here. They’re bold, fun, and again, great conversation pieces. Clearly my home decor taste is quite eclectic. LOL (My grandparents literally think my skull obsession is – hysterical.)
Elephants.
I’ve always loved elephants and its kind of strange because my grandmother on my mom’s side loved them too and unfortunately she passed away when I was only 3 so we never got to share our love for them together. This guy is one of my favorite pieces in our house. I actually have an elephant in almost every room! Some are big like this one, and others are small and harder to find in the house! This one is my favorite. Its strong, and completely speaks for itself. I get compliments on him all the time. And lets not forget the entire point of our blog here – veganism! Elephants are the largest animals in the world – AND they’re vegan!!
A Chakra Pyramid
I bought this for Lynn before she moved up here. She was going through a difficult time and I was reading online about these and the powers that they have on your mind and spirit. She loved it. And when she moved, she thankfully took it with her because now I can enjoy it too. I have it sitting on top of some cute coffee table books on one of the shelves of the plant table. The glow and contrast this brings surrounded by the natural greens of our plants is just amazing. Great gift for the yogi in your life (even if its you!) These also come in different colors based on your chakra selection and needs!
Two More Bonus Zen Buy’s!
BONUS* SALT LAMPS!
I panicked when I saw I was already on number 10, I said NO! Wait! I haven’t even gotten to the salt lamps yet! I meant it when I said these lights have magic powers. They have this insane ability to destress a room and give the most beautiful serene glow you’ve ever seen. I have three nestled in with my plants and every night we turn them all on and it transforms the house entirely. One of us will say every night, “lets get zen, turn the lamps on.”
I’m going to link two here, because depending on what you’re going for you’ll love them both. If you want a BIG one, this one is perfect. I have this one in my bedroom because I wanted a large one on my bureau and a smaller one on my night stand. Amazon sells a double pack of smaller lamps. They’re still REALLY good size. You just get two! I’ve bought this package twice. Told you. Salt lamp addict.
BONUS* THE CUTEST SIGN EVER
I have a beautiful faux eucalyptus wreath hanging on our front door and in the center I have THIS sign. Couldn’t possibly be any cuter, or more true! It’s the perfect thing to read after a long day of work because it’s SO true, your home is your safe space and we’ve always wanted our home to be a safe space to relax not only for just us but for anyone and everyone who walks through our door.
Happy Decorating FEMPIRE!
We hope this helped to at least bring SOME zen home decor into your lives. Everyone should have some zen. Its a really beautiful thing to be surrounded by home decor pieces that make you smile, feel peace, and truly make you relax at home. Because after all, thats what home is for. Its you and your family’s space, make it relaxing, comfortable, and most importantly, make it YOU.
